The Blue Marquee
If you happen to be in Lyons, Georgia during the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s you would remember a place that consistently drew crowds, The Pal Theater. The theater held hundreds of young and old alike, who were lured by the brilliant creativity of all kinds of films. The theater gives our community a since of history and architectural presence – along with memories of first dates, family outings, and 10 cent tickets. The theater is located on highway U.S. 1 in the center of downtown Lyons. When the theater closed in 1977, the great structure slowly began to deteriorate. The crowds disappeared from the downtown area, and Lyons fell into the same dormant state.
In 2001, a concerned group of local citizens declared a new life for Lyons’ old theatre. This group of local volunteers raised money and gave of their time to save and reclaim the historic theater. Renovation began not only for the theater, but also for the surrounding buildings. An old dentist office that was attached to the theater was made into a coffee shop named “The Blue Marquee.”
The theater, built over 70 years ago, came equipped with a stage, orchestra pit area and good acoustics – ideal for live performances. Three-hundred and twenty seats, a movie screen, state-of-the-art sound equipment, and over-head projector make the facility ideal for meetings.
The theater has become the cornerstone of Lyons revitalization and serves as an anchor to our economic and cultural base. New businesses have opened and numerous historic buildings have been restored.
