Events and Recreation

As a Georgia Better Home Town, Lyons has the will and the means to bring the best to its attractions. Have a cup of coffee at the Blue Marquee Coffeehouse on US Highway 1; while you’re dunking your cinnamon roll, you can enjoy the entertainment that’s also part of the fare on Friday and Saturday evenings. A variety of artists and styles are featured here.

Head over to Broad Street, where you can browse the unique shops downtown. There’s a pleasing array of antiques, gifts, floral arrangements, decorative items, books, glassware, jewelry, stained glass, wind chimes, clothing, furniture — well, let’s just say that if you can’t find that perfect souvenir on Broad Street, you’re just not looking.

Fresh produce is a seasonal treat in Lyons. The Saturday Farmers Market in Lyons is a lively and colorful affair that’s fun to visit even if you just want to look around — but you’ll want to buy, and don’t forget your onions or those sweet Georgia peaches!

Annual activities and festivals in Toombs County begin in May with the Soapbox Derby in Lyons. Each year, 35 to 40 entrants — each guardian/child pairs — gather at Derby Hill to compete for trophies, medallions, T-shirts and the grand prize, a trip to Akron, Ohio, for the national finals.
